FAQ

Questions and Answers

This page offers a lot of information, so in case we've already answered your question, please take a look at the FAQs below before contacting us.

Do you work with specific industries? Do you accept all projects in these industries?

We do work with a wide variety of industries, and while we specialize in the following, we are happy to work on projects within other industries. • Authors/Literary (authors, editors, publishers, cover designers, narrators/producers, and book/literary bloggers) • Coaches (mindfulness, wellness, career, writing, book, and motivational) • Artists (individual artists, art galleries) • Pet Industry (groomers, veterinarians, pet sitting/day care, dog walking, pet photography, etc. We do not design sites for pet sellers.) • Naturopathic Health, Alternative Medicine, and Wellness* (naturopathic doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, dietitians, nutritionists, yoga and Pilates instructors/studios, and similar). • Hospitality (boutique hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, small resorts) We do not work on sites that feature, sell, or promote politics/political parties, hate speech, violence, sexual activity/goods, nudity, or illegal activity. We do not work on author or literary websites that feature erotica. *To maintain the integrity of our work, all naturopathic health and alternative medicine practitioners must have the proper credentials/certifications/degree for their practice. Do you accept all projects in these industries? Not necessarily. Either during the discovery call or based on your email inquiry, we'll evaluate if we're a good fit for what you want in a designer and what you need for your project.

Do you work with other website platforms?

We primarily work with Wix and will also work with Squarespace and Shopify on a project-by-project basis. We no longer work with WordPress or Weebly and are unable to make exceptions.

What is the annual cost for a Wix website?

You will be responsible for purchasing web hosting with WIX and your domain (assistance and instructions will be provided). The hosting costs will depend on the premium plan you choose (click here for more information). Options are available for monthly, annual, and multi-year plans. Most domain registrars, including Wix, offer the same options. Websites don't have to be expensive, but you should be realistic about making sure what you want fits within your budget. Domains are inexpensive and there are many registrars from which to choose, including GoDaddy, NameCheap, Register, Google, Wix, and more. Additional Rate Notes: Stock images and videos, when purchased once, do not have to be purchased again.

What is the payment schedule? Do you offer refunds?

Before we send the agreement, we ask if you are absolutely certain, and have taken the time to consider your budget and timeframe carefully, before committing to a project start date. Once the agreement is signed and work begins, there are no refunds or exceptions. We are only able to offer to reschedule your project for another date within three months. How it works: Your start date is scheduled once an agreement is signed. All material (copy, images, etc.) has to be to us at least 72 hours prior to the start date or your start date will be pushed back. Sooner is always better. Payments for Semi-Custom and Bespoke sites are invoiced in three installments (25%, 50%, 25%). Once the final project is approved and the site ready for launch, the final installment will be due before we transfer ownership of the site to you. If the website is already on your account, then a 50% deposit is required before work commences, 25% at the 3/4 mark, and the remaining 25% will be due upon final approval. The project fee(s) will be invoiced electronically via Wix. Payment Methods Invoicing is done through Wix, which offers several payment options (credit card and digital wallet). Please note that we don't see the actual credit card information. We will never request your bank or credit card information. Offline payments in the form of a money order (U.S. only) is an option on a limited basis. If you prefer the offline payment option, please let us know at the time of your inquiry. If this is your preferred method, work begins only after payment is received. If the payment is delayed, your start date will also be pushed. We do not accept checks.

What if I want more than your packages offer? Is there an "Unlimited" package?

There is no "unlimited" package because, at some point, the project will need to finish and launch so you can share it with the world. However, if you need an extensive site design with several advanced features and pages, we can create a custom quote for a Signature Website to encompass everything you might need.

If I try to make changes on my own after the site launches and mess up the site, will you fix it?

If they are minor, and only take a few minutes (one time), then yes, we will help by fixing the errors at no charge (5 minutes or less). However, if the errors due to any changes you make are extensive, and/or likely to take more than 15 minutes, we will invoice in advance based on the estimated time to fix the site. Before we publish a completed site, we will ask you if there are any final updates/changes/additions that you want to the site. It is very important that you are happy with the final site before you give your approval. If you approve the site, and then decide to make design changes on your own, any time we spend to fix the site will be invoiced. If you are okay losing any changes you have made, then on Wix sites we can restore the site back to the version you approved. We invoice in advance based on the estimated time to fix the site, which can vary depending on how much needs to be adjusted after the previous version is restored.

Will you train me how to update everything for my new website? What if I need more training?

This response in two parts because, yes, website design packages come with some training based on the project, but not training for everything and not all live training. We have on-going support options if you prefer not to make updates and changes yourself. VERY IMPORTANT: If you opt to do everything yourself after your site launches (excellent for you!), then you need to be comfortable with computers and learning some things on your own. Trainings cover limited updates and back-end management, but do not cover actual design (moving elements, adding new elements or features, adding pages, SEO, and more). ALL SITES: All Wix sites come with access to pre-recorded video trainings based on a sample site. This covers changing/updating text, images, links, updating page SEO, and using the blog if applicable. We do not offer stand-alone website training. If you want to learn more than what the basic training offers, we can provide links to resources. However, if you are not computer savvy, we recommend ongoing support.

Availability and How We Communicate

Initial consultations are done via phone (or email if that is the client's preference). However, we are computer people, not phone people. We do not provide a direct number. Instead, clients are provided with a conference call number for the purpose of the initial consultation and other scheduled calls. Let us explain . . . Due to the nature of our creative and analytical work, work that requires a lot of focus, our phone ringers are usually turned off. We may also be on another phone consultation, and we don't think it's fair to any client for that limited time to be interrupted. Availability: We are available for scheduled calls Tues-Thurs, 10:00 am – 11:30 am MST, unless special circumstances apply. Please understand that outside these hours, we devote our creative energy to ongoing projects. With rare exceptions, we are unavailable during the following times: 2024 Closed Dates: June 1 - July 5; limited availability from Sept 18 - Oct 20; Nov 22 - Nov 30; Dec 16 - Jan 8. Video Calls: For calls that require screen sharing, and for advanced site trainings, we use Zoom or FreeConferenceCall.com. We do not offer an option for video conferencing with the camera on.

How much say do I have in the design?

With the Essentials Website package, we will have you complete a questionnaire, and then we take over and design the site based on your preferences. With the Signature Website package, you have as much or as little say in the design as you want, though don't be surprised if we try to narrow the scope a bit to prevent a chaotic design. With the pre-designed websites, then the design is complete (except for changing the color scheme and font, if desired). If you would like any changes made to the site design, then pricing for either the Essentials or Signature websites will apply. Your website is your website, which means communication is key to understanding your vision. Your input is essential, and a designer should be asking for your input. If you already have a logo or brand that you need the design to work around, then your designer should be able to do that. On the other hand, some people prefer to leave everything about the design up to the designer. Just be careful not to become a difficult client that the designer doesn't want to work with. If it's not fun for the designer, chances are their best efforts aren't going into your website.

Will my website be mobile friendly? Will it look the same on all screens?

Yes, it will be mobile friendly. We create websites to look great across all devices from desktops to mobile devices. While it's the goal to have the website look exactly the same across every type of smartphone, there can be variations beyond the control of the web designer. Mobile views are condensed for a reason (easier scrolling on mobile screens), which means some of the design elements will appear differently than on a desktop or laptop. No, it will not necessarily look the same on all screens and in all web browsers, and no designer can guarantee this. Different web browsers have different code that may interpret your website differently. This is why you'll have some apps and companies tell you that their website is best viewed on ABC web browser as opposed to DEF web browser. Older monitors and computers may also show color variations from how the site is really designed. Individual user settings on monitors and computers (color settings, night light, etc.) may also impact how your site looks across certain screens. We work on two desktops with different monitor types, plus check websites on a MacBook, tablet, and mobile, so we get a good visual of what the website will look like on different devices.

What if we don't get along?

This happens. Really, it's a part of business and not everyone is going to have a great working relationship. Difficult clients may find that web designers choose not to work with them or end a project because the client is unreasonable in demands or is not professional. On the other hand, a client may elect to stop working with a designer who is unprofessional and does not communicate. It could also be that the designer and client are not connecting on a creative level. If this happens, it's not ideal, especially if you're trying to finish a website, but it's all right. If we, as the designer, are unable to fulfill our obligations to the client, or if we feel the working relationship is not helping the client, then we let you know. If the client uses the site we've built, then there is no refund on work completed. If the client elects not to use the site, then any deposit already paid will be refunded. If the client gave approval for the website, even if they elect not to use it, no refund is given. If the website is for some reason already on the client's account, we will delete the website and notify the client that they may remove our access from their account. Once a site is transferred to a client's account, no refund is given. If the client provides approval of the site at any point, no refund is given. We want our clients to be happy with their websites and their experience working with Rocky Range Creative.

What do I need to provide you for the website?

All the content for your website! At least three days prior (one week is best) before we begin work on your site, you'll need to have all the text, images, videos, etc ready to go. It sounds like a lot, and it can be, but don’t panic! We'll provide you with the steps, process, and an online folder to upload all of your content. If you do not have any of the content ready, then we recommend either a Coming Soon site or waiting until your content is ready.

Is a logo included in website prices?

No. This would be an add-on service. For most authors, text logos work great, and many font options (some free, some paid) exist. If you have a font you currently use that is considered part of your brand, we can use that font for your website, so long as you already own the file, it is free for such use, or can be purchased for such use. If you want a basic logo, that is an add-on service. If you want a fully customized or illustrated logo that can be trademarked, we can help you find a designer or illustrator. Custom logos can range from somewhat affordable to expensive.

Do you manage social media accounts?

We can help manage social media for select industries. If we work out an arrangement to manage your social media pages, it has to be through a third-party app such as Buffer, Hootsuite, etc. This is an add-on service.

Do you work with clients in other countries?

Our work hours are in Mountain Standard Time. We have had the pleasure of working with clients in various countries and across many time zones. However, due to scheduling difficulties with significant time differences, we now work primarily with clients in the following time zones: Alaska time, Central time, Eastern time, Hawaii-Aleutian time, Mountain time, Pacific time, Atlantic Time, and Newfoundland Time. We can also work with clients in BST (British Summer Time) and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) so long as the client is comfortable with the slight delays due to the extended time difference. We are only able to communicate in English and are only able to create sites in English. However, multi-language site options are available with Wix.

Will you give me feedback on my blog/website?

We do not offer website reviews as a stand-alone service. During the discovery call for a redesign, we will offer general insights only. If you would like a redesign of your current website, please contact us.

Is there any reason why you would fire me as a client?

Thankfully this is not a common question, but one that requires a response. We go out of our way to make sure each client is happy with their experience and their finished website, and we expect the same consideration and respect that we offer our clients. However, yes, there are circumstances under which we would end the working relationship with a client. If a client is difficult, demanding, inconsiderate of our time, and constantly changes their mind about what they want, or have unreasonable expectations (pay for an Essentials site, but want the advanced features of a Signature site). That sounds harsh, and we have been lucky, but the potential circumstances exist where it could happen.

Website Privacy Policies

Yes, you need one. If nothing else, it's good practice to be up front with your website visitors and customers about how you do or don't track them and gather information on them. Do you have a blog or website that requires a login to comment? Do you collect emails for a newsletter or blog, or have an online store or mailing list? These any many other situations that require the need for a privacy policy on your website. Privacy policies are pretty standard for most websites, but we are not legal professionals and therefore do not guarantee or customize privacy policies. We will create a page for your privacy policy, and provide you with a general policy, but you will be 100% responsible for ensuring it meets your website/business needs. It's never too late, so if you don't have one now, consider putting one in place today.

Launching a new website is like setting a ship to sail; embrace the winds of change and let the currents of innovation lead you to success.

No hidden fees.
